DLF - The Lions drafted Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta with the 34th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Iowa tight ends have a very solid track record of success but it was still surprising to see LaPorta go ahead of players like Michael Mayer and Luke Musgrave. The Lions had a massive hole at tight end after the trade of TJ Hockenson last season and LaPorta couldn't have landed in a better situation. He could move all the way up into the second round of some rookie drafts as a result of his draft slot and new team.
