Comparing a player’s athletic traits to past and current NFL players
from DLF
DLF: A lot of people were not impressed with Cook’s combine performance because they were expecting an elite level athlete. Just like his combine performance, the backs that compare to him athletically are forgettable. Wendell Smallwood was considered one of the trendier sleepers in last year’s rookie drafts. Both players are very similar when it comes to size, speed and burst.

Yahoo Sports: 3. Dalvin Cook, Florida State — 5-10, 210 — Might not be transcendent talent, lacking elite athleticism and prone to ball security issues, but the tape reveals Cook’s strong balance, burst and vision

NFL Overview: Cook will likely be one of the top three running backs selected in the NFL Draft and has the skillset to be a contributor immediately. But it's also fair to note that Cook isn't likely to be a team's primary back in his first season despite being a good receiver with elusiveness and excellent quickness. He's not afraid to initiate contact but doesn't frequently "win" and plays smaller than he is. The more believable outcome is that he is a third-down/pass-catching back in the vein of Tevin Coleman.

DRAFT ANALYSIS: "Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer did their homework and vetted all of these running backs. Dalvin Cook is a first-round talent who slipped into the second round solely because of the off-the-field issues. ... When you put his tape on, he's special. He'll make a difference in Minnesota." -- Mike Mayock
